Micha Wertheim Festival: Gaga-dansles

Ian Robinson
Tue 13 May ’25 and Wed 14 May ’25
This Gaga class is part of the Micha Wertheim Festival.
Tue 13 May ’25
and
Wed 14 May ’25

In the week that Micha Wertheim premieres his new show Nergens Anders at Frascati, he also presents a specially curated program. A true festival with a selection of performances and activities that, according to him, absolutely deserve your attention. One of these is a Gaga class.

Micha about Gaga-dans:

“The forty participants will be introduced to Israeli choreographer Ohad Naharin’s movement language. Gaga provides a framework for discovering and strengthening the body and adding flexibility, stamina, agility, and skills including coordination and efficiency while stimulating the senses and the imagination.

Few artists have had as much impact on me as Ohad, who I’ve been following with bated breath for nearly thirty years. Last year, I was able to visit Tel Aviv to interview him for the NRC newspaper about what art can mean in times of war.

Gaga originated from Naharin’s curiosity in the ongoing research of movement, as well as his need to communicate with dancers in order to improve their dancing skills, range of movement qualities, and interpretation of his choreography. If Gaga classes were held in the Netherlands, I’d be there every week. An hour grooving to good music makes it just that bit easier to withstand the slings and arrows of everyday life.

If you don’t believe me, just take a look at the marvellous documentary Mr. Gaga (which I regularly recommend). The GAGA lesson will be given by Ian Robinson.”
