In the week that Micha Wertheim premieres his new show Nergens Anders at Frascati, he also presents a specially curated program. A true festival with a selection of performances and activities that, according to him, absolutely deserve your attention. One of these is this performance by the wandering photographer and artist Volkert Gerling.

Micha about Flipbook Cinema:

“The show by Volker Gerling I saw at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival made a lasting impression on me. I’ve waited years for him to come to the Netherlands, but he never did so we’ve invited him over specially.

Volker has been touring Germany on foot for ages. Along the way, he portrays people by making little flipbooks about them. These portraits last roughly three seconds. During his show, he talks in a calm but compelling way about all the people he’s come across during his travels.

A minimal idea that he makes maximum use of. Volker’s work brings together photography, theatre and stop-motion. Afterwards, you look with even more pleasure at all the faces you meet during a day.

His dedication is impressive and inspired me to make portraits of people from the audience in my show Iemand Anders.”
