In het teken van Keti Koti wordt op zaterdag 29 juni een avond georganiseerd waarin verschillende kunstenaars een artistieke bijdrage leveren rondom de vraag ‘Wat hebben we nodig om ons in de toekomst hier thuis te voelen?’

Samen werpen we een blik op het verleden, staan we stil bij het heden en zetten we een stap de toekomst in. Onze toekomst en die van de generaties die nog komen gaan. Na een verleden waarin slavernij zoveel leed heeft veroorzaakt en tot op de dag van vandaag op vele niveaus doorwerkt, nemen verschillende makers je mee in een avondvullend programma rondom dit thema. Hoe kunnen we samen herdenken en onze voorouders vieren? Hoe voelen we ons vandaag de dag thuis en wat is er nodig om ons in de toekomst thuis te voelen?

De avond wordt gemodereerd door schrijver en verhalenverteller Onias Landveld en wordt geopend door multidisciplinair kunstenaar OTION. Speciaal voor deze avond creëert hij een openingsritueel. Acteur José Montoya gaat in op zijn onderzoek naar het aanbieden van excuses. Hoe werkt dat? Wanneer komen ze aan? Is sorry zeggen genoeg?

Femi van Elshuis zal teksten voortdragen die voortborduren op het thema van thuis voelen, dat eveneens centraal staat in haar solo Ik wil wit zijn die op 28 juni te zien is. Myra Fanta en Joanne Purperhart zijn onderdeel van Luku Xam en gaan deze avond in gesprek met Onias over hun werkpraktijk en hun onderzoek naar het dekoloniseren van het zwarte vrouwenlichaam.

Over Theater voor Keti Koti

Met Theater voor Keti Koti worden nog onbekende verhalen over ons koloniale verleden onder de aandacht gebracht. Tijdens de vierde editie van Theater voor Keti Koti programmeert Frascati naast Wortelen voor morgen ook de voorsteling Ik wil wit zijn op vrijdag 28 juni. In samenwerking met de Brakke Grond worden op zondag 30 juni Free Heri Heri for All maaltijden van KIP Republic uitgedeeld op het Nesplein.

Theo d'Or-nominee (2024), OTION is a multifaceted artist passionate about dance, theatre choreography, composing, songwriting, and performing. His artistic journey began in Amsterdam in 2000 at Lucia Martha's Institute for Performing Arts. After graduating from Codarts in 2010 he participated in various projects and residencies across the world. Exploring his ancestry through his work, OTION developed a deep appreciation for the metaphysical/spiritual aspects of his art form. As an interdisciplinary artist, his mission is to create spaces where others can be moved by the power of sound and reconnect with themselves.

As an adopted Colombian and imported Amsterdammer, José Montoya often got the feeling of being different. Thanks to theater, José discovered that being different is precisely his strength. After years of playing in other people's stories, the urge arose to make his own voice heard. Inspired by Afrofuturism, he imagines a new world as a multidisciplinary theater maker and visual artist with the motto: 'No wisdom, without travel time'.

Femi van Elshuis (23) graduated from the Amsterdam Theater School and Kleinkunstacademie in 2023. She is an actress, theater maker and word artist. She reflects on the world around her from her experience and reflects it honestly and often poetically to the viewer. Out of perceived necessity, her work often deals with social themes. In the theater she has appeared in productions by Black sheep can fly, DIEHLEDING, George & Eran Producties and was part of Het Debuut 2023 by Via Rudolphi productions. From her graduation poetry collection 'FEMI' she performed in 2023 at Oerol, among others.
