Back then, when they were little, everything happened naturally. Sister Liane and little brother Samil would play, chat, romp and share dreams about who they will be when they are grown up.

The children have lively imaginations and often play at being The Little Mermaid: Liane is always Prince Eric, and Samil has to be Ariël. The pair of them are inseparable. Until Samil’s sister becomes his big brother. Liane becomes Jeff, embracing his true identity. Unfortunately, the natural connection between the two children then gets lost.

It’s not just Samil who has trouble adjusting to his sibling’s new identity as big brother Jeff. The rest of the family and their friends also reject this, as their values clash with the essence of who Jeff is. When, as a young adult, Jeff commits suicide, Samil is left with questions, sorrow and doubt. He too loses his lust for life. But then his inner child, Little Samil, rebels! Little Samil goes searching, and eventually finds his dead brother’s inner child: Little Jeff.

Multiverse (inseperable) is a musical, visual production on the power of the childlike imagination and the value of perspective in healing trauma. What happens to imagination and the openness of the inner child when adults have to follow the well-trodden paths? Can we re-appropriate child’s play in order to free ourselves?
