Carolina Bianchi

Carolina Bianchi is a Brazilian theatre-maker, performer and writer based in Amsterdam. She graduated in 2022 from the master’s programme at DAS Theatre (Academy of Theatre and Dance). Carolina has been associated with Frascati Productions since 2023. Her work takes place between theatre and performance, inextricably binding together theory and practice. Her productions depart from a crisis perspective and address issues of gender, sexual violence and art history – sometimes on the basis of personal and/or historical events.

Biography

For her sensual, outspoken and uncompromising productions, Carolina makes use of a combination of references from literature, news, film and painting, and is always looking for an ongoing confrontation with everything that seems to be an absolute truth. In her productions, she translates complex social and political issues into highly accessible material that appeals directly to a wide audience at both physical and intuitive levels.

The Brazilian maker is a member of the collective CARA DE CAVALO (Horse's Face) from São Paulo, with whom she has created works including: O Tremor Magnífico (The Magnificent Tremor) – 2020, LOBO (Wolf) – 2018, the open-air production Quiero hacer el amor (I want to make love) – 2017 and the lecture performance Mata-me de Prazer (Kill Me with Pleasure).

CADELA FORÇA (Bitch Strength)

Carolina is currently developing the project CADELA FORÇA (Bitch Strength) with Frascati Producties. This entire project consists of a trilogy forming a hellish, Dantesque circle around stories of femicides from the '90s to now, about the problems of documenting a rape and the fraternal bonds between Cis males as part of a linguistic system that upholds violence against women.

In all parts of the trilogy, theatre and performance act as potential media for Carolina to talk about these stories of extreme violence. This first production within the trilogy CADELA FORÇA is supported by residences with Frascati Producties, Central Elétrica- Porto/PT, Pride Festival Belgrade/Serbia and Próximamente /KVS – Brussels/Belgium.

Cadela Força - Capítulo 1: A Noiva e o Boa Noite Cinderela* / *Chapter 1: The Bride and The Good Night, Cinderella premiered at the Avignon Festival on July 6, 2023. The Dutch premiere took place on Thursday, September 28, at Frascati. In September 2024, during her residency at Frascati, Carolina worked on the second part: Cadela Força - Capítulo II: The Brotherhood. She will continue developing the performance under the wing of Theater Utrecht in December 2024. The performance will premiere in May 2025 at the Kunstenfestivaldesarts in Brussels.
