An ode to the escapism that lies hidden in all of us.

Join Cali, Baby and Daisy’s ‘after’. Three young idealists and “glossy junkies” with a big desire for connection in a world they are simultaneously withdrawing from.

In a visual, sensory trip, Toni Blackwell presents an ode to a group of people who live in the shadows of society. The night owls and the day sleepers, the chain smokers and the heavy users. Those who prefer to dampen down instead of deal with the day-to-day drag. But ideals don’t dissipate with the dampening down through cigarettes, alcohol and drugs.

Why flee from a world you also want to be a part of? Who are you from 9 to 5, and who are you at night? When does escapism become part of your identity? And what if you no longer dare to sleep because ‘real’ life is waiting for you?

Inspired by personal experiences, Toni presents a raw and playful meeting with a group of friends who remorselessly give in to something that’s in all of us: the urge to escape.

Toni Blackwell graduated in 2021 from the Theatre Teaching programme in Amsterdam. Her work deals with social themes that impact her personally, are provocative and educational.

At Frascati Producties, she previously showed Voor Sletten die zijn verkracht during Under Construction (2022, winner of the De Troffel award at Festival Cement) and Toni Blackwell’s Medusa with actress Nora El Koussour (Beginnings 2023). In addition, she teaches at Bijlmer Park Theater and, among other projects, was an assistant director on The Story of Travis by Theater Rotterdam / Well Made Productions.

Voor junkies die de wereld gaan redden (2024) is a further expansion of Toni’s raw, pronounced signature, fed by a need for justice and equality. Taking her own experiences as her starting point, she gives her performers the scope to build characters on the basis of their own vision.
