Make me cry! In the context of the performance SPAfrica, Studio Julian Hetzel and Ntando Cele open the world’s first Tear Farm – at Frascati. Over the course of three days, tears will be harvested and collected. Become a “volun-tear” and cry for the arts: each tear contributes to a liquid art installation in the township of Langa (Cape Town, SA).

Make it rain! The art work proposes a symbolic exchange of resources and an ambiguous dialogue between liquids, to raise questions about empathy, agency, reparation and guilt. Water for tears, tears for water. Each “volun-tear” receives one bottle of SPAfrica – the world's first empathy drink – in exchange for their tears. SPAfrica addresses the extraction and capitalization of both natural resources and emotional resources and explores how closely racism is linked to capitalism through water and tears as conflict material.
