Wojciech Grudziński

Maker

Wojciech Grudziński (1991) is a Polish artist, choreographer and dancer based in Amsterdam. His work investigates topics such as the power dynamics that exist (both implicitly and explicitly) within theatre and dance. Wojciech studied dance at a Ballet School in Warsaw and CODARTS in Rotterdam, and obtained his master’s from DAS Theatre in Amsterdam (2021-2023).

Biography

Explorations of inclusivity, queerness and the embracing of diversity lie at the heart of Wojciech Grudziński’s work. He works without boundaries, shame or coyness on the basis of a created freedom of choreography and performance. His work is an ode to dance and choreography heritage, within which Wojciech strives to create an inviting scope for play and to celebrate a range of different perspectives on the way we see our bodies.

In his graduation research at DAS Theater, Wojciech examined the ambiguity of ‘bowing’. Together with his artistic team, he carried out research into a series of grand bows from the history of dance, with specific attention to dubious, indefinable moments. This was brought together in his graduation production BOW A STUDY. This dance performance had its première in February 2024, in coproduction with Frascati Producties.

In March 2024, Wojciech developed the dance performance Threesome as part of Frascati’s residency programme, which gives makers the scope to experiment and investigate freely. In this piece, he hones in on the lives of three legendary Polish ballet dancers from the 1960s to the ’90s: Stanisław Szymański, Wojciech Wiesiołłowski and Gerard Wilk, the legacies of whom over time have become overshadowed by myths and legends.

In de pers

“A playful, baroque and weird investigation into bowing […] Beautiful and intense. […] we want to see more from this maker.”
