Stephen Liebman
Biography
In his work, director Stephen Liebman creates a highly individual blend of spoken and physical theatre; a middle way between narrative and theatrical abstraction. A recurring theme in this is the relationship between language and power.
In 2018, Liebman graduated from the directing course at the Academy of Theatre and Dance (Amsterdam University of the Arts) with two of his own adaptations: Het Proces (after Kafka) and Fuckboy, je maintiendrai (after Choderlos de Laclos and Müller). During his studies, he worked as an intern with Guy Cassiers and he recently directed a very free adaptation of Sartre’s Huis Clos on location in a meadow with second and third-year students from Artez University of the Arts School of Acting.
From the 2018-2019 season, he worked under the Frascati Producties umbrella. In the autumn of 2018, as part of Fraslab he presented the solo Kasper performed by Charles Pas (based on various reference works, the Kasper Hauser texts and the play written about him by Peter Handke in 1967). This season, Liebmans presents his first Frascati Productie, Enter Medea.
