A trans celebration of destroying things in order to create something new.

In a room somewhere, two people are locked in an endless gory fight. A raw, euphoric choreography between 3 figures and 75 litres of fake blood, Blood Show howls its call for us to put what’s inside on the outside and to defend against a violent gaze.

This cyclical feat of endurance and precision is a trans celebration of destroying things, including ourselves, in order to create something new. Circling around questions of rebirth and how we carry our ghosts with us, Blood Show is a slow experiment in concealing performers in order to make us think more about the limits of the human body. Why do we want to know what people ‘really’ look like? And how dangerous is the idea of ‘the natural’?

After its international premiere in Cardiff in 2024, Blood Show is now being presented for the first time outside the UK.

  • Dutch premiere: Wed 5 March 20:30
  • Duration: 60 min

About the maker

Ocean Stefan (they/them) makes work which runs across performance, installations, texts and film. The things they make often play with language, duration, mischief and confusion. Their practice is one of inbetweenness and overlap which celebrates liveness and slippage. They are interested in the grey areas in life, and their work is committed to undoing things which claim to be fixed.

Their permanent public art piece You Are Here will be installed in London this year, commissioned by Old Diorama Arts Centre. They been a Fellow of Birkbeck Centre for Contemporary Theatre, Thinker-in-Residence at the Live Art Development Agency, Jerwood New Playwright at The Royal Court Theatre, Creative Producer (Participation) for Forced Entertainment, Lecturer in Drama and Contemporary Performance at Manchester Metropolitan University, and from 2008-18 they were Artistic Director of GETINTHEBACKOFTHEVAN performance company.

Monster Show (The Extinction Trilogy, Part 1) is also currently touring. Blood Show is their second performance in The Extinction Trilogy.
