The Tales of Amazigh

Musician and storyteller Aziz Ozouss (Agadir, Morocco) plays and sings the Rrways, a sung form of poetry. This poetry is presented in Tachelhit, the original language of the south of Morocco, and contains the oral history of its culture. 

Aziz takes us through his youth in which he talks about his musical heroes and the songs he enjoyed growing up. It’s a journey into the realm of Amazigh wandering poet-singers. He will tell us about the meaning and the story behind the songs and present us with a selection of them live together with percussionist Sjahin During. He does this while playing the Ribab, a peculiar stringed instrument with only one string that is being played with a bow and is being held like a guitar. 

Aziz Ozouss and Sjahin During are also part of the Afrovibes concert “Tales of Amazigh” together with renowned singer of Rrways, Fatima Tihihit, in Muziekgebouw aan ’t IJ on the 8th of October.
