Frascati Producties: Information for makers

Frascati is a house for makers that represents a multitude of voices. Our core tasks are developing and presenting progressive, independent performance art and artists and facilitating connection: between artists and audiences, between makers themselves, and between the theatre and society. Led by artistic growth and innovation, we follow our own path in stimulating innovative, small-scale, socially committed performing arts and providing a sustainable platform to as yet unheard voices.

Artists can be affiliated to Frascati in a range of different ways. Our production house, Frascati Producties, provides long-term, vigorous support to a pluriform group of makers. In addition, artists can take up a residency or carry out research within the house, such as Beginnings or Under Construction, or work on a co-creation project. Finally, a group of makers is affiliated to Het Verbond. Here, self-organisation is key. 

Artists within Frascati Producties are talented young makers who have a positive contribution to make to the performing arts in the Netherlands. They break open the disciplines in their own ways, relate in an impactful way to the times in which we live and hold the potential to build flourishing careers for themselves within the performing arts. Our role is to introduce them to the public, so they can then position themselves autonomously within the (international) theatre ecosystem. 

Frascati makers do not come in just one flavour. Works are created in a huge diversity of forms: for the theatre space or on location, in co-creation or as a community art project, as a podcast, or in a gallery. Frascati facilitates young makers’ open approaches to their chosen fields. What links our makers is their urban, socially committed vision. Their work is authentic, engaged, contrary, frequently has a documentary angle – but is always new and free in form. 

Tracks and support

Together with the makers, we draw up a tailor-made track, within which we can make use of all elements offered by the house. Multiple makers can undertake this development process, which is centred around the artist learning and gaining experience. The maker receives support in the artistic, commercial and production fields. We support artists in creating productions, but also like to offer scope for their requirements in terms of carrying out research, gaining greater insight, carrying on conversations and co-curating. The productions are presented in Frascati’s various spaces, depending on the demands of the work and the stage the maker has reached within their development. 

Intake

A major resource in our selection process is our network within Amsterdam, within the Netherlands, and throughout the rest of the world: our contacts with festivals, other theatres and production houses, and development venues. Alongside our good relations with a range of educational institutes in the arts, we also consider self-taught makers. 

A collaboration usually starts with seeing one or more productions by a maker, and a concrete discussion of their practice.
