The space moves the dancers, their movement generates sound, the sound redesigns the space.... The result is a delicate interplay of cause and effect, but who is the instrument and who is the player? The Bone Algorithm is an interdisciplinary performance with a kinetic installation that produces music through the movement of the dancers.

Amos Ben-Tal, Gosse de Kort and Salvador Breed once again join forces and explore the theme of the "devolution" of technology. The performance imagines a possible future where a tipping point is reached and life starts to imitate technology.

What kind of beings would we become? The Bone Algorithm is intriguing not only for the experienced dance lover, but also for fans of visual art and new music. Interweaving powerful dance, sound and image, the three artists create a total experience for the audience.

After the performance, the audience is invited to "play" the instrument themselves and explore the space.

Interactive aftertalk and Q&A

After the performances on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday the makers and performers invite the public to an informal aftertalk, to share the process and answer questions. The audience is also invited to explore the installation themselves.

In the press

"Setting those increasingly free, undulating, winding dancers' bodies – the bones with the muscles, the tendons, the nerve pathways and the senses – against the straight and rigid metal grid is a very successful form of physically investigating this." Theaterkrant

"The beautiful construction is more than an eye-catching decor (...) Within this ingenious construction, the three dancers have to find their way, crawl-by-sneak-through, with every change. It is a continuous, exciting interaction: the dancer 'plays' the installation and influences the shape and volume of the space. Conversely, space and sound have consequences for the dancers." NRC

About the makers

OFFprojects is a collective of former dancers of NDT and Batsheva Ensemble that gathers around the work of choreographer and musician Amos Ben-Tal. In recent years OFFprojects has successfully collaborated with interdisciplinary artist Gosse de Kort (Interval, 2021) and sound artist Salvador Breed (PART, 2022).

In both pieces, the creators found a symbiosis of their art forms that resulted in innovative performances. Interval was nominated for the prestigious Swan for most impressive dance production and PART was named by the press as one of the best performances of 2022.
